Answers on materials, customization and lead times

1. How are refractory bricks classified by material?

By material: fireclay, high-alumina, silica, magnesia (MgO, MgO-C, magnesia-spinel etc.), corundum, mullite, silicon carbide and special bricks like fused-cast AZS. Each grade has different temperature ratings and erosion resistance — selection depends on furnace type, temperature and media.

2. Can special-shaped bricks be made per our drawings?

Yes. With professional mold design and forming capability, we make custom special-shaped bricks in alumina, fireclay, mullite and corundum grades with ±1mm tolerance, supporting small trial runs and mass production. Drawings or samples are welcome.

3. What are refractory precasts and what is the lead time?

Refractory precasts are pre-formed components cast from monolithic refractories per furnace drawings, lifted and assembled on site for fast, reliable relines. Typical lead time is 7-15 days including curing and pre-firing; complex large items are assessed case by case.

4. How to choose between high-alumina and fireclay bricks?

Fireclay bricks (Al₂O₃≈40%) have good thermal shock resistance and economy, suitable below 1300℃ and for thermal cycling zones; high-alumina bricks (Al₂O₃ 55%-80%) serve above 1400℃ and load-bearing zones with higher strength. They are often combined by kiln zone.

5. Where are magnesia-carbon bricks applied?

MgO-C bricks combine magnesia's high refractoriness with carbon's thermal conductivity and non-wettability, giving strong slag resistance and thermal shock stability — mainly for converter linings, EAF hot spots and ladle slag lines.

6. Can insulating bricks be used as the working lining?

Insulating bricks have low strength and poor erosion resistance, so they normally serve as back-up insulation behind the working lining; they may face the process only in low-wear, slag-free low-temperature zones. We provide composite lining designs.

7. What dimensional tolerance can refractory bricks achieve?

Standard bricks follow national standards; special-shaped bricks and precasts can be held to ±1-2mm per drawing. High-precision items are mold-finished and inspected piece by piece for smooth on-site laying.

8. Do you provide installation or masonry guidance?

Yes — masonry process guidance, brick layout suggestions, expansion joint design and on-site technical support are provided, and experienced professional masonry crews can be recommended.

9. How are bricks packaged to prevent damage?

Standard bricks are palletized with stretch film and strapping; special shapes use wooden cases or edge protectors; export orders are fumigated and reinforced per shipping requirements. Every pallet is inspected before dispatch.

10. What is the MOQ and lead time for bricks?

Standard grades have no strict MOQ; custom special shapes are suggested from 5 tonnes per type. Lead time: 5-10 days for standard bricks, 10-20 days for special shapes and precasts, with phased delivery negotiable for large volumes.
