Description

Light mullite insulating brick is a high-performance lightweight refractory product with mullite as its main crystalline and bonding phase. The Al₂O₃ content is generally 50%–85%, and grades are classified by service temperature as JM-23, JM-26, JM-28 and JM-30. A uniform porous structure is formed by adding organic burnout materials, giving the brick low thermal conductivity, low bulk density and relatively high strength — an ideal insulating lining for energy-saving industrial kilns.

Key Features

  • Low thermal conductivity: about 0.3–0.5 W/(m·K) at 350°C, significantly reducing shell heat loss.
  • Low bulk density: 0.8–1.3 g/cm³, reducing structural load of the kiln.
  • Good high-temperature structural strength: higher than ordinary lightweight bricks, capable of withstanding gas scouring and charge pressure.
  • Low reheat shrinkage: dimensionally stable at high temperature.
  • Excellent thermal shock resistance: suitable for frequent start-stop and temperature fluctuation.
  • Flame-contact capable: high-purity mullite phase resists atmosphere fluctuation.

Typical Applications

  • Insulating and working layers of ceramic roller kilns, tunnel kilns and shuttle kilns
  • Insulation of glass melting and annealing furnaces
  • Wall and roof insulation of reheating and heat treatment furnaces
  • Insulating linings of petrochemical cracking and reformer furnaces
  • Insulating layer of composite linings (dense working layer + lightweight insulating layer)

FAQs

What is the difference between light mullite and light high alumina insulating bricks?

Light mullite brick has mullite as its main phase with higher Al₂O₃ (50%–85%) and purer crystals, providing better high-temperature structural strength and creep resistance — suitable for higher temperatures and fluctuating atmospheres. Light high alumina brick is more economical for general medium-temperature insulation.

What is the maximum service temperature?

1350–1550°C depending on grade (JM-23 to JM-30); select the grade according to the kiln operating temperature.

Can it directly contact the flame?

Yes. High-purity mullite lightweight brick has good thermal stability for flame-facing linings. For parts with severe slag attack or mechanical wear, combine with dense bricks.

Can dimensions and special shapes be customized?

Yes. Henan Songrui New Refractory Materials Co., Ltd. supports processing of various sizes and special shapes per drawing, with complete kiln package supply.
